A motion design teaser: 56 seconds in one HTML file

Opus 5.5 - Motion Design On Thursday, October 1 at 2:00 PM, I'm opening Reboot with AI with a keynote whose title is meant to provoke: "Writing code by hand is an anti-pattern." To announce it, I had Claude Opus 5.5 build a 56-second teaser. The film tells the story of the talk in a kitchen: a human is buried under a tower of handmade artifacts, and it finally collapses; a brigade of identical cyborg line cooks turns out the code, the slides, the video, the article, the post and the report; we are the chef: tasting, sending dishes out, sending dishes back; five punchlines, and then the closing line: "An AI won't replace your palate." The technical side: everything fits in a single 185 KB HTML file. The fonts are embedded, every character and object is drawn in code, and the music is synthesized in the page. No images or sounds come from outside. Each frame is a function of time. For any given moment t, the page always produces exactly the same frame. That means the loop closes perfectly, down to the pixel. The page also checks on its own that every line stays on screen long enough to be read. A script then renders the video. Playwright captures the 3,360 frames, and ffmpeg puts them together at 60 frames per second with the audio. The result is a teaser you can edit like a document. After the first render, I changed the closing line. I edited one line in the HTML, rendered again, and the video was up to date. That's exactly what I'll argue on Thursday: what you deliver is both the artifact and the machine that makes it. Here, the video is the artifact and the HTML file is the machine. In between, my job was to taste. It took five versions of the prompt, and several dishes went back to the kitchen: a v1 that played it too safe, lines nobody could read in time, and a copper dot meant to stand for the palate that mostly looked like a hockey puck.
