I’m shocked - why is this so expensive 😭🍉 Asked Claude Sonnet 5.5 to make a jelly watermelon. You can stretch it, squish it, and let go - it bounces right back in your browser But the estimated API cost came to around 8.20$ Here’s the breakdown: Code and reasoning - 2.80$ Cached context reads - 3.60$ Cache writes - 1.80$ Regular input tokens - 0.02$ Almost two-thirds went toward handling context. I came for a gummy watermelon and ended up wondering why its memory costs more than its code 😂
Making a watermelon - $4.50. Letting me slice it - another $7.98 😂🔪🍉 Asked Claude Opus 5.5 to add a knife to my jelly watermelon. Now I can cut it into pieces, and each one keeps wobbling, stretching, and bouncing right in the browser Estimated API cost: $4.50 for the watermelon + $7.98 for the knife and slicing = $12.48 Slicing cost more than the watermelon itself. But I can’t stop playing with it lol
